Brooke Shields's Battle with Postpartum Depression

From a first glance you would think that the former Calvin Klein model Brooke Shields has it all; timeless beauty, fame, a loving family, and a great marriage. On the contrary, after giving birth to her daughter, Rowan Francis, Brooke Shields spiraled downward into a state of postpartum depression. Postpartum depression is a disorder where the mother of a newborn suddenly feels extreme sadness and emptiness. Also, the one in 10 mothers who are affected by this disorder are proven to withdraw from family and friends, have a strong sense of failure, and have thoughts of suicide.

With a new infant in the house, and the mom suffering from depression, things got out of hand very quickly. Shield's husband Chris Henchy stated that when baby Rowan would cry, Brooke did not bother to care for her as a normal mother would. Brooke's depression even got to the extent where if she was near a window, she would strongly feel an instinct to jump out of it, because she wanted to end her miserable life.

With everything that is happening in the world today, I can see how even famous stars like Brooke Shields can suffer depression. I think one of the reasons why Brooke suffers this depression is because of all the pressure that society puts on her. After giving birth to her baby, she is expected to loose weight really quickly, and go back to shooting ads and modeling. If I were her, and pressured to do that much, I would also probally feel depressed. The good thing is that her depression is behind her, and now she lives a great life with her family! i love happy endings =)

Hmm... this is interesting. What's ironic is that she's doing a commercial now with Volkswagen to promote the new Volkswagen Routan. She says, "Don't have a baby for German engineering, have a baby for love. Don't be like ________." Ironic.

It's sad how she wants to end her life, even when she has a child to care for. This is interesting because you would think that beautiful celebrities are happy with their life, when really, they are just like us and can suffer from disorders that ordinary people do.
You should add more of your opinion about this, but other than that, it's really good and interesting! (:
I give you a 97

It's really sad to see that she was considering to commit suicide. I would think that celebrities like her wouldn't suffer from this kind of depression, but I guess we're all vunerable to pyschological disorders. You were really in depth with your blog i would give you a 98! (:

Wow. Who knew that such a person could have this kind of disorder. I liked how you talked about the disorder a lot, and then talked about how it affected her life. But this was very interesting.

Ohh, I never knew that Brooke had postpartum depression. She seemed fine out in public, but I guess appearance doesn't tell you everything. I think she should stay strong because there are other people out there that supports her. You did a good job of explaining her battle, but could've added how you felt about her depression.

I would give you an A:)

I heard about this on Oprahh lol. it was really sad how she had thoughts of hurting her own child that seems extremely hard to go through. you gave alot of detail and explained it all really well. You should have put more of your own opinion in it but overall pretty awesome :]

Good job on your post. I think you could have added your opinion on how you felt about the depression and your opinion on its affect on her.

You really showed the other side of things, how life is not all this happy bliss to just walk through. Good job on that. It really shows how much more a person is going through than you can see.

This goes to show that fame and success does not always lead to happiness. Great post.

Wow, depression can go a long way. Your blog was very detailed and I had a clear understanding of Brooke's problem.
I prefer that you tell the reader that Brooke overcame her depression before you explain how you feel about this disorder, or else it leaves the reader hanging.

I didnt think that somebody of her type would suffer from depression. Especially after all her accomplishments and fame achieved during her life. Nice blog!

I guess that one's achievements cannot help much with their psychological problems. nice post with great details and opinion at the end.

I never really understood Postpartum Depression, but it sounds like it's pretty bad thing to go through. She must be pretty strong to have gotten though it and stay in the public eye.

I liked your in depth talk about the disorder, but I felt you could have added a little bit more of your own opinion into the post. Otherwise, I thought it was well done!
